Dyson says the V8 range has used three different batteries over its life; check the first three characters of the serial number (under the machine or on the battery) on Dyson's V8 battery page before buying.
Names like 'V8 Absolute' and 'V8 Fluffy' were sold in both star and pinch pre-filter versions, so the name alone does not tell you which filter fits; the battery 974815-01 covers both.
Dyson's 974815-01 compatibility list does not name the original Dyson V7 (SV11); the V7 has its own battery (968670-06).
Not interchangeable with V10, V11, V12, V15 or Gen5 batteries.
V8s come with either a pinch pre-filter or a star pre-filter; they are different parts. Check which one your V8 has (Dyson's V8 parts selector shows both).
