Compatibility answer

Will the Eve Energy smart plug (Matter, US) work with the Google Nest Mini (Matter over Wi-Fi only)?

Yes, with conditions. Works, but it also needs Thread border router.

Both records are reviewed against the manufacturers' sources; sources last checked 2026-10-14. Informational only: confirm with the manufacturer before buying.

Why

  • ✓ Both use Matter smart home standard.

Conditions

  • Thread border router: Needs another device that provides Thread border router.

Good to know

  • Matter runs over Wi-Fi or Thread. Matter-over-Thread accessories also need a Thread border router somewhere in the home (see radio:thread-border-router); a Wi-Fi-only controller is not enough on its own.
  • Each ecosystem supports a subset of Matter device types, so check that your controller supports the accessory's type (e.g., lock, thermostat, sensor).
  • Some products reach Matter through a bridge (e.g., Philips Hue Bridge, Aqara Hub M3) rather than speaking Matter themselves.
  • Matter-over-Wi-Fi accessories typically need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • It also relies on Thread border router, which this device doesn't provide. You may need another device in the home that does.
